Sex Assault Seminar

Sexual predators come in all forms and could even be someone you know. That topic at a sexual assault prevention seminar Wednesday, hosted by state lawmakers.

The luncheon featured research by a University of Michigan professor who studied the causes and consequences of sexual assaults.

Experts say in many cases, the predators know their victims.

"It's important that people don't assume that rapists look like something in particular or somebody in particular, or that they come from a particular walk of life or particular racial or ethnic group because we all want to protect ourselves and our children from sexual predators, but to do that effectively, we have to make sure we're not making assumptions,” Dr. David Lisak a psychology professor says.

The seminar also featured representatives, "The Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence,” and several State prosecutors.
