Competing for Cable

The debate over who should be able to provide cable services continues with commercials and legislation.

Phone companies want easier access and cable companies want to continue with local franchise agreements.

Commercials fighting for both sides are now running and bills have been introduced in both the state House and Senate.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero appears in one pro cable ad, adding local communities get money from franchise agreements and if one statewide system was put in place the locals would lose.

At & T spokesman Jon Kreger says the bills provide local control and the ability to cash in.
