The Ingham County Prosecutor's Office has withdrawn the appointment of the prosecutor who handled Claude McCollum's murder case. Eric Matwiejczyk was the prosecutor when McCollum was wrongly convicted of first-degree murder and first-degree criminal sexual conduct in the 2005 death of Lansing Community College professor Carolyn Kronenberg. He spent more than a year in a state prison before being released last October. Detectives have since linked Kronenberg's death to convicted killer Matthew Macon.
Matwiejczyk's release comes as the Attorney General's office released its report on the McCollum case. It does not include any criminal charges, but says Matwiejczyk will be referred to the Attorney Grievance Commission. The Commission will decide if he violated state rules of professional conduct for failing to disclose information that could have exonerated McCollum at trial.
