Stolen checks used to buy stamps.

Jami Lynn Shepard may not be a good speller. But for months, authorities say she fooled postal clerks with 62 fraudulent checks worth nearly $17,000.
The Oakland County woman is accused of buying stamps by using stolen checks at post offices throughout eastern Michigan. Instead of one word, Shepard turned postmaster into two and spelled it "p-o-a-s-t."
Authorities arrested her in May after she visited a post office in Wixom. She was charged last week in federal court in Detroit with identity theft and cheating the Postal Service.
Shepard could not be reached for comment. There is no phone number listed for her in Hazel Park. A defense attorney has not been assigned.
The checks were stolen from cars in Detroit.
