Human remains were discovered Friday in a wooded area adjacent to US 127, bounded by Cavanaugh and Dunkel Roads.

The area is MSU property. A MSU student doing research on the property discovered personal items and contacted MSU police.

University police were joined by Lansing Police and Michigan State Police to search the area.

A MSP K9 team discovered the remains.

A release from the Lansing Police Department says the personal items located at the scene appear to belong to a missing person, however, the department won't the identity of the person.

Lansing police won't speculate on the cause of death, but they doubt foul play was involved.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
