A neighborhood association called "Westside Alliance" turned to MSU's Urban and Regional Planning department for answers. Grad students took on analysis as a semester project.
They released their findings to the group Monday night, and gave us a closer look Tuesday. Their conclusion: The land is best suited for some kind of mixed use building.
They boiled data down to scores out of a possible 12 to grade possible uses.
Here are their findings:
Light Industry (like bio-tech): 10
Commercial retail didn't score well because the site doesn't have much visibility from any major roads. As for the others, the MSU team says a combination would be best.
The MSU team says they didn't calculate specific numbers on the possibility of another factory because of the economy. They say, locally and nationwide, it makes that option limited.
