State owned property housing Lansing's former School for the Blind is one step closer to being sold.
Following months of negotiations, the City of Lansing and the Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy, the school operating on the property, reached an agreement last week. Under the agreement, the Lansing Housing Commission would purchase some 26 of the 35 acres for about $800,000. The school would purchase roughly 8.5 acres for about $200,000.
The Lansing Housing Commission will first refurbish the old Administration building. It will be its offices in the building and re-do the upper floors for some 50 apartments for the elderly.
When talks about selling the state owned land first began, the school wanted to purchase all 35 acres.
The deal isn't doe yet, both the Legislature and the Governor have to sign off on it.
