Buying concert or sporting event tickets online is quick and convenient. But buyer beware.
You could end the proud owner of some fake or overpriced tickets.
These problems often occur when consumers wander onto websites using similar addresses as legitimate ticket sellers.
If you're not sure of the website, use a search engine to find it instead of just typing in the address you think it might be.
A lot of con artists set up spoof sites with similar spelling to take advantage of shoppers who search for sites this way.
If you're still unsure, try calling the venue directly and asking for their website.
The Michigan Attorney Generals Office says the best thing to do is know who you are dealing with.
Make sure it's a reputable website, especially before providing any payment information.
If you buy tickets via online auction sites, you should try to use a credit card. Purchasing tickets with a credit card often provides you with protection that you would not otherwise have if you purchase tickets via cash or check. Added protections include the ability to dispute a charge if a concert or event is canceled, or you receive counterfeit tickets.
