DETROIT (AP) -- A 9-year-old is recovering from a gunshot wound suffered when his grandfather fired at a pit bull that was attacking the boy in Detroit.
Police say the bullet fired by the 60-year-old man passed through the dog's body, ricocheted off the sidewalk and hit the boy in the thigh on Wednesday morning. The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment of what authorities called non-life-threatening injuries.
WJBK-TV says the man had a permit to carry the weapon.
A police spokeswoman tells the Detroit Free Press that Detroit Animal Control took custody of the dog, which survived the shooting.

I think that whatever tv station decides to report news should 1.Get the story straight before they report it.(I know what really happened) 2.Report on other animals...not just pits. 3.not exaggerate a story just to make it better for ratings. ~ Ban stupid people ...not dogs.

The only reason people think Pit Bulls are bad is because the media only reports dog attacks from Pit Bulls. It's a topic everyone is talking about, and it's being fed by the media. I'm sure Pit bulls are not worse than other dogs.

Just recently in another state a 2 month old was killed by a 5-6 month old Lab puppy, a breed that is suppose to be the most gently. It has nothing to do with Breed its all in how you train them. Don't blame the dog blame the owner.

I don't think that pit-bulls are an agressive dog. They can be, but if you train them correctly, they can be a very gentle companion. It all depends on who the owner is and if it is a dominate dog.

What a tragedy. I feel so bad for the Grandfather and for the child. What a horrible situation to find yourself in. I people will defend pit bulls and I wish somone would come up with some information regarding the severity of the attacks and bites of a pit bulls vs. the other breeds. I just don't trust a pit bull because of their breeding background. My best wishes to the grandfather and to his grandson.

Why do people keep 'Pit bulls' around? All they are are trouble.
