Don't shoot off fireworks if it's not a holiday.
Saturday night, police in Jackson gave a warning to someone doing just that in the 1900 block of Teneyck. Ten minutes later, more fireworks were reported, so police issued two citations for fireworks violations.
Jackson is one of several mid-Michigan communities with fireworks ordinances on the books. You cannot set them off unless it's the day before, of, or after a national holiday. Even then, you can't set them off in the overnight hours.
Fireworks are not allowed any other day of the year. Violators could be fined up to $500.
