As Police prepare plans for safety, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is hitting the air reminding people to stay away from the April 22 Nazi rally.
Bernero and a diverse group of Lansing leaders taped a Public Service Announcement Thursday. It will run on local television stations beginning Monday. Bernero has also voiced radio spots.
Police will release the official safety plan next week, but they've said in the past it will include metal fencing and metal detectors.
Bill White, spokesman for the National Socialist Movement which is the group planning the rally, says if the metal fencing does go up, he and his group may attend the diversity diversion the city has planned. White says he may also file an injunction if the city doesn't change its plans for protection.
Mayor Bernero says no one will be barred from the diversity celebration, scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. the same day at the Don Johnson Fieldhouse, but everyone is expected to respect the diversity of the community.
