It was a rude awakening for Jackson residents Sunday morning, after a nightmare unraveled in their own neighborhood.
"About 5:00 a.m. me and my husband woke up and we heard a round of gun shots and seen police," said Jackson Resident Janet who heard the gun shots and didn't want to give her last name.
"I heard three separate rounds of like 5 rounds of gunfire, going off and then I heard more yelling and then I heard a lot of sirens going off," said Leslie Hartzog who also heard the gunshots.
The Jackson Police Department says around 5:00 a.m. officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 300 block of Bloomfield Blvd. and upon arrival they themselves became involved.
"The officers arrived and apparently confronted the suspect in the 200 block of West Euclid Avenue," said Deputy Chief John Holda of the Jackson Police Department.
Then more shots were fired between police and the suspect.
"An exchange of gunfire or a shooting occurred at that location, there's two victims involved at that location," Holda said.
The Department isn't releasing many details but they say more than one officer was involved in the shooting.
"We believe there were at least three of our officers involved, but I'm not sure; there were several officers on the scene," Holda said.
Neighbors say the two victims , a male and female were in a relationship and had gotten into an argument prior to the shots fires, and other neighbors say they heard that argument.
"I heard a female and a male yelling at each other," Hartzog said.
Police and sheriff's deputies spent the day combing for evidence up and down city blocks that have now become a crime scene in a small community.
No officers were injured. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is now conducting the investigation.
