Currently 91,000 Americans are on the waiting list for an organ. In Michigan the number drops to 3,000. Still that's up by 20 percent from 2004. And less than 10 percent of the state's population is registered to donate. Kidney recipient, Stan Moore wants to make sure people know their gift is precious.
"I just cried. I didn't know what else to do, because I'd been on dialysis. I couldn't believe somebody would give me their kidney."
Moore's donation came from a friend. But living donations are rarer. Organ Donation Awareness
"He tells me thank you all the time. But that's not important. It's the opportunity to give without anyone having to tell you thank you or even knowing you. It's a wonderful, wonderful thing."
