A new poll of likely Michigan voters shows Republican John McCain has narrowed the gap between himself and Democrat Barack Obama in Michigan.
The statewide poll by Quinnipiac University was released Thursday.
It finds 46 percent saying they'd back Obama if the election were held today. Forty-two percent back McCain. Obama was slightly leading McCain 48 percent to 42 percent in a Quinnipiac poll a month ago.
The poll of 1,684 voters was commissioned by the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. It coincides with similar polls for Colorado, Minnesota and Wisconsin -- all considered electoral battlegrounds.
The poll was conducted between July 14 and Tuesday and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
