About a month ago, Governor Jennifer Granholm signed legislation making criminal background checks mandatory for anyone applying for work in a long-term care facility. And now a new website is available to employers to help expedite the process. It's called the Michigan Long Term Care Partnership Workforce Background Check.
The website is a collaboration between Michigan State Univesity and the state government. And it's currently one of only seven pilot programs in the nation. It gives long-term care providers the opportunity to search the backgrounds of potential hires.
The system is in its first phase. And program devolopers plan on making a few changes like adding the Michigan State Police to the database. It's expected to be fully completed in about a year.
