High Schools Point of Interest

As the U.S. stands poised to go to war with Iraq, military recruiting is down, and that means high schools become increasingly important for potential recruits.

The No Child Left Behind Act requires schools upon request to grant military recruiters access to high school students' directory information.

Officials from Lansing's 9th Marine Corp. receive more than 55 percent of its marines from high school. But with the privacy issue, officials note 20 percent of schools refuse to release information.

School Administrators say parents have the option to delete their child's information from any list.
