Gov. Jennifer Granholm wants to send $80 million state dollars to local units of government for them to use to match $400 million in federal highway resources, a move that could create 7000 road building jobs over the next two years. However she needs legislative approval to do that, and the chair of the House Budget Committee is not sure "this is good public policy."
Rep. Scott Hummel says it is good election year politics for the governor who is seeking re-election next November.
Local officials would decide which road projects are funded with the legislature left out of that process.
