Winter Skin Tips

Winter weather can cause dry, dull and even peeling skin. But there are things you can do to protect it without spending a fortune.

Dermatologists say reaching for more lotion isn't the only answer. They say when washing, use a gentle moisturizing soap and then reach for a moisturizer that's a little bit heavier to use this time of the year.

Dermatologist and Dermatological surgeons say Cetaphil, Aveeno are good examples of moisturizing soaps.

After using the soap put mineral oil on your body "before" getting out of the shower and then within three to five minutes, apply a heavier moisturizer like Cetaphil, Aquaphor or Eucerin. But avoid mineral oil on the face because it can clog pores.

There are some steps you can take to help your skin during the winter months. After you shower, moisturize while your skin is still damp to lock in hydration. Don't forget to exfoliate to get rid of dead cells, which make your skin look dull.

Make sure your moisturizer contains sunscreen; snow reflects more than 80 percent of the sun, even on cloudy days.
