A longtime state lawmaker says he won't be seeking re-election in November.

State Representative William Van Regenmorter says he plans to stay active but wants to spend more time with his family.

He and his wife, Cheryl, have four children and eight grandchildren.

The 67-year-old Republican from Hudsonville has been a member of the Legislature since 1983.

William Van Regenmorter will have spent 24 years as a lawmaker by the end of his current term.

He has been chairman of the House and Senate judiciary committees for more than 16 years.

One of his most noteworthy accomplishments was his authorship of the Crime Victim's Rights Act of 1985.
