The Michigan House last week adopted a tougher graduation standard for high school but allowed students at the end of the tenth grade to choose another program were the requirements are not as stiff.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm is urging the state senate to remove that provision claiming it is "too early" to allow the change. The governor favors that decision at the end of the 11th grade and the State School Superintendent agrees. Senate action on the whole package is expected later this week.
