The sheriff of Eaton County, Tom Reich, announced Thursday that the owner of three dead dogs that were found in a dumpster behind a Payless Shoe Store in Charlotte has been identified.
The owner of the animals is an elderly Brookfield Township woman. After further investigation Eaton County Animal Control removed 15 dogs, 6 cats, 3 rabbits and a large number of birds from her home.
Another individual is believed to have disposed of the three deceased dogs. That complaint is still under investigation. The authorities are awaiting the results of the necropsies on the animals before turning the case over to the Eaton County Prosecuting Attorney. The prosecuting attorney will determine any potential charges in the matter.
