JACKSON, Mich. (AP) -- A Detroit man whose driver's license has been suspended 22 times has been sentenced to 13 to 20 years in prison in what authorities described as an extreme case of road rage.
Jackson County Circuit Court Judge John McBain exceeded sentencing guidelines Thursday for 30-year-old Phillip Alexander in the wild ride that began on Interstate 94 in Washtenaw County on July 15, 2007.
The judge calls it "the worst case of road rage in the history of Michigan."
Authorities say Alexander forced 10 vehicles off the road before crashing on U.S. Highway 127 in Mason. He was convicted in May of charges including assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
Alexander apologized and blamed the crime spree on the hallucinogenic drug PCP.
