Mayor David Hollister, Director of Michigan’s Consumer and Industry Services, says a long war with Iraq could halt the construction and completion of General Motors’ Delta Township Plant.
General Motors estimates the plant could bring thousands of jobs to the mid-Michigan area.
While concerns rest over the duration of a possible war, Hollister admits Lansing could be more insulated than most car producing towns.
He said Lansing’s production of smaller, less gas-guzzling cars could protect their piece of the auto industry.
Hollister further said a war of less than 30 days would not have a sever impact on the local automotive economy.
