A story of a dog who was rescued after devastating tornadoes hit Illinois, on Sunday November 17 is being widely shared online.

Jon Byler Dann survived the tornado that hit Washington, IL, along with his wife and four children. They sheltered in the basement of their home, and made it through the storm without harm, but the family's dog, Maggie refused to leave her kennel, and Jon couldn't get her into the basement.

After the storm, Dann found that his home was destroyed, and couldn't find his pet. He assumed that Maggie hadn't survived the tornado.

Over 24 hours later while searching through the rubble, friends heard a faint barking underneath them. They started digging, and found Maggie buried in the debris, wrapped up in a piece of carpet.

Maggie was hurt, with broken bones and possible internal injuries, but is expected to recover fully. Byler Dann has owned Maggie since the 11-year-old animal was four months old.
