Birth Control Coverage

Insurance companies currently pick up the cost of Viagra for men, but women who want birth control pills have to pay for it themselves.

Senator Martha Scott says this is unfair and she wants the law changed. She contends that in the long run, the state will save money because a private study suggests for every $1 spent on controlling births, the state can save $3.

However Senator Tom George argues if insurance firms are told to provide the coverage there is a chance they will drop all prescription drug coverage which he says would hurt everyone.

The measure is still pending in a senate committee.
