Gov. Jennifer Granholm has asked President Bush to declare a major disaster for parts of Michigan following severe storms in mid-June.
Granholm asked Thursday for federal aid to partially cover the costs to the state and local governments in responding to the June 6-13 storms that caused extensive flooding and wind damage in a 12-county area.
The counties include: Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Missaukee, Osceola, Ottawa, Saginaw and Wexford.
Granholm says current estimates put the cost on emergency measures at nearly $19.5 million.
Federal assessment teams in Michigan after the storms found damaged roads, bridges and water control structures.

I really don't think bad storms are over with in mich.So many countries are getting things in ways they never have in the past.As rain continues to flood, wildfires are out of control, hail in record amounts this yr.and many crops get ruined.Food prices have raised in ways more will have less and with the oil prices added. How are people to eat.Jenn try living on food cards and low wages or no wages,Not enough jobs in mich.Alot of folks need food cards raised. How about speaking to the federal gov about that.It is in your power to do so.High employment areas should get more help. Why aren't they?Food prices are bad enough, but the way the weather is going the next words will be SHORTAGE OF FOOD.Farmers are what keep things going but they are getting hit by fuel prices and weather damage.Poor states like mich need extra help all the way around. It is no sin to be poor.Just a sin by thoes with money who do nothing to help.
