School districts would get two hundred dollars more per student next year but universities would see only slim increases under Governor Jennifer Granholm's new budget plan.
The proposal divides up around 40 billion dollars in state and federal dollars for the budget year that starts October 1.
Under the governor's plan, all schools would get at least seven thousand seventy-five dollars per student next year, with some schools getting more than 11-thousand dollars.
But tough decisions could loom because higher Medicaid and welfare caseloads and possible federal cuts could outpace any increases in the general fund.
