Gov. Jennifer Granholm says there could be as many as 2,000 state employee lay-offs because of state budget problems. That is, unless there are concessions.

Some local union leaders Monday said they are willing and hopeful that they can sit down with the governor and discuss possible ways to save jobs.

In Mid-Michigan there are 5,300 state employees. Union leaders say layoffs would not only effect the local economy, but also effect state services statewide.

Granholm also said she's willing to take a pay cut. And one possibility is for state employees to return an already agreed upon three percent raise.
