Through community service and annual events, mid-Michigan residents come together to honor the life of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Lansing Center was packed with people attending the 21st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Luncheon. A 13-year-old reverend from Texas was among the guest speakers.
Around mid-Michigan, community service projects were done by Michigan State University students participating in an "Into the Streets" event. The organization hosts two service days like it a year; Martin Luther King Jr. Day is always one of them. The groups completed about a dozen projects.
