The All Saints Episcopal Church in East Lansing has a $2,600 heating bill for December; that's up 80 percent from the previous month.
Mother LaRae Rutenbar said the church will have no choice but to start making some cuts.
"We're going to have to rob Peter to pay Paul," she said.
Rutenbar said many of the church's community programs may not be around later this year if costs keep going up. She added that the church is bracing for even colder weather.
"It hasn't been that cold lately; what happens at the end of January and February?" she asked.
Rutenbar said many churches have no choice but to ask its members to give a little more.
If each member gave an extra $5 a month, the extra heating costs would be covered.
