Gov. Granholm says "powerhouse" economy is two years off.
In her annual year end news conference, Gov. Jennifer Granholm predicts some job growth in 2006 but continuing problems with layoffs in the automobile manufacturing sector. So while she predicts Michigan will again become an "economic powerhouse," you may not see that until 2007 and 2008.
Asked to list her high and low points of 2005, the governor says signing the $600 million in business tax relief was at the top of her list and at the bottom was having to tell Michigan parents that one of their children was killed in the war in Iraq.
"That is the toughest part of being governor," she says.
