144 soldiers from the Michigan Army National Guard are home after serving a year in Iraq.
It was an emotional homecoming Wednesday morning when troops from the 182nd Field Artillery arrived in Lansing at the Walter French Academy.
The celebration was bitter-sweet, as a moment of silence was observed for Sgt. Ricky Kieffer from Ovid. Kieffer was killed in Iraq last March.
Insurgents attacked the unit more than 30 times during their tour, including three suicide bombers.
The 182nd received 19 bronze metals, and 6 purple hearts.
There are currently about 19-hundred Michigan national guard soldiers deployed across the globe.
