Two Lansing area parents were charged Wednesday with failing to send their children to school on a regular basis.
Thirty-two-year-old Crystal Mountain of Dewitt Township and 31-year-old Meicha Burnett of Lansing are charged with violating the state's compulsory school attendance law.
These parents failed to ensure that their Lansing elementary school students regularly attended school.
Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings says the three children involved, ages seven and nine, missed between 20 and 25 days of school during the first semester.
Dunnings says 90 percent of these problems are resolved at the school district level and never make it to his desk. The maximum penalty for this offense is 90 days in jail and a $50 fine.
