The Michigan Senate has passed a resolution saying a tree in front of the state Capitol should be called a Christmas tree rather a holiday tree, as it is now.
Debate over the resolution grew heated today, with a Republican Alan Cropsey of DeWitt criticizing "elites" for attacking people of faith and forcing the tree to have a politically correct designation.
Senator Gilda Jacobs, a Huntington Woods Democrat who is Jewish, said she doesn't hate Christmas.
The resolution is symbolic and does not have the force of law.
