Norman Verhage was a plane captain in the Navy nearly two decades ago. His job was to make sure the military aircraft was safe before pilot Lt. William C. McCool started his flight.
Verhage says as the plane captain he was in charge of making sure William McCool was strapped in tightly to his seat and the aircraft was secure, ready to take flight. He says he's proud he was able to work with McCool who moved through the ranks to become a NASA employee.
