Gov. Jennifer Granholm says she plans to cut nearly $4 million from the executive branch to help save money.

The new governor announced budget cuts that include stopping color copying within the executive branch and reducing the state's use of cellular phones. The governor also says her budget cuts will include conserving energy and electricity by shutting off lights and reducing temperatures in state buildings overnight.

One thousand state vehicles from Michigan's motor fleet would also be put out of commission to help cut costs.

Gov. Granholm may also put a hiring freeze on state positions to help reduce the state's deficit.
