The traffic Sunday is just a trickle compared to the torrent that was Black Friday across the country.
"I think we had an exceptional good year," says Bruce Katalenich, a team leader at Meijer.
At his compnay, where expectations weren't all that high this year because of the economy, they say they'll meet and exceed their goals.
The numbers so far exceed everyone's goals. The National Retailers Federation survey, out Sunday, found total weekend spending up 21.9 percent from last year with about 145 million shoppers spending $27.8 billion.
"I don't think that will happen in Michigan," says Larry Meyer, president of the Michigan Retailers Association. He says the only numbers they have locally are bank card transactions. Meyer says it was about a 2 to 2.3 percent increase, and he believes that's closer to the number Michigan retailers should keep in mind as this shopping season wears on.
