We start off in East Lansing where Doctor Chandra Williams is urging patients to be on the look out for poison ivy. Symptoms include severe itching and red blisters that usually occur in streak like formations. Wash the area with soap and water immediately. Soothing oatmeal baths, calamine lotions, antihistamines, and topical steroid creams all offer some relief. If the outbreak is severe there are oral steroid treatments available.
The sniffling, sneezing and watery eyes could all be symptoms of the common cold, according to Doctor Rebecca Wolfe. There is no cure for the common cold but lots of fluids help. Over the counter decongestants, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen will also help you feel better.
Doctor Heidi Johnson is treating patients with swimmers ear. The painful infection is marked by facial discomfort, a decrease in hearing, and sometimes drainage from the ear. For treatment you'll need an antibiotic ear drop for pain control. Swimmers ear can be prevented by over the counter ear drops. Avoid putting anything in your ear like a Q-Tip. Your ears actually clean themselves.
