A Lansing woman has been convicted of murder in the death of her 2-year-old son.
An Ingham County Circuit Court jury of eight men and four women delivered guilty verdicts against Mercedes Kemp on Friday.
The 21-year-old defendant was convicted of second-degree murder, torture and child abuse in Brandon Kemp's slaying last year.
The trial began three weeks ago.
Kemp will be sentenced March 27. She faces any term of years up to life in prison.
Defense lawyer Stacia Buchanan says Kemp was a victim of domestic violence, who had been "lured into a nightmare" and trapped by her boyfriend, Marcus Hill.
Hill is expected to stand trial at a later date on a murder charge in Brandon's killing.

Its truly sad we fight so hard to make people get licenses to have a DOG or CAT but yet any one can have a child. This woman has no right to shed a tear let alone call her self a mother. Quit frankly she particpated she allowed she is as guilty as the scum boyfriend. Point blank our judicial system time after time shows how broke they are hopefully they redeem them selves and put this baby killer out of her misery whats worse is I am sure no judge will do the right thing we will either house, her, feed her 3 meals a day, give her excellent health care and educate her all along while she pays nothing. That child didn't derserve to brought into this world to suffer because of ignorant selfish people like these.

It may be very difficult to break free of an abusive person. No Mother should ever keep their child or children in an abusive environment. With all the social resources, safe houses and hopefully family get your child/children and get out. may be rough for a while; I believe and KNOW that in the long run....children are safer. We adults chose to stay involved in the vicious cycle....children are at our mercy to walk away. Emotional starvation, verbal abuse and insults, destruction of walls, furniture and spitting in a persons face is abuse. Defending yourself is abusive as well in the eyes of the law. PERIOD. I hope the little boy is resting in peace. No child picks their parents.

Let's hope the judge does the right thing and puts this baby killer away for life and not just probation with a half hour therapy session once a month. She looks like she could have whipped that skinny boyfriend to death instead of her own flesh and blood.
