Residents using the Village of Napoleon water system are being asked to boil their water before using until at least Sunday morning, perhaps longer. An electrical problem with one of the water system's pumps caused a loss in pressure, which can lead to microbial contamination. The pump has been fixed, but the system will have to be tested twice over the next 48 hours to make sure there is no contamination.
The boil water advisory forced Napoleon Community School District to close its school Friday. However, pre-schools and daycare will be open, because they are on a different water supply.
The Napoleon Township water system operator in charge, Kevin Lawrence, tells News 10 the advisory effects approximately 300 customers. His office advises that until further notice consumers should boil all water used for drinking and cooking. The water should be boiled for at least 5 minutes before being used. If the water is for drinking purposes, it should be cooled in a sealed container. Lawrence says the public will be notified when they no longer need to drinking water. Anyone with questions should call Kevin Lawrence at 517-242-7131.
