Lansing Police Investigating Series of Broken Windows

For Jennifer Brooks, the last straw came Friday evening, when she got a call from her boyfriend while out running errands.

"He just said, 'I'm sorry to tell you, but something just came through your window again," she said.

A brick had been thrown at her living room window, shattering it. It was the fourth time her home on maple street had been attacked in less than a year.

"It is really scary and especially because rocks are scary enough, but then to escalate it to a large brick," said Brooks.

Brooks says it all started last spring, when three rocks broke her window over several weeks. After several months, it happened again Friday.

Fearing for her family's safety, Brooks called Lansing Police each time, always getting the same response.

"Basically, what I've been told is without any proof or eyewitnesses, there's not a whole lot they can do," she said.

Frustrated, Brooks called News 10. We contacted Lansing Police and found out she wasn't alone in her situation.

Capt. Mike Yankowski says since December 1st, there have been 16 similar incidents within a half-mile radius of the Brooks family's home.

Yankowski also contacted Brooks, informing her Lansing Police would step up patrols in the area.

At 7:30 p.m., Monday, A Lansing Police problem-solving team caught six boys, aged 12 to 15, while they were smashing a window on nearby Killborn.

They are currently investigating the boys to determine their involvement in the crimes. According to Yankowski, the department has identified several suspects through its investigation.
