Mid-Michigan Celebrates Fat Tuesday with Paczki Tradition

Updated: Tue 8:40 AM, Feb 12, 2013

Local bakeries are busy boxing up as many paczkis as they can. It's Fat Tuesday, and people across mid-Michigan will load up on the treats today, before lenten fasting starts tomorrow.

Quality Dairy has been serving up the Polish treats since the late 1980s, when the Miller family brought the tradition to Lansing. They were a big hit, and today, the company offers 11 flavors. On Monday, the Quality Dairy bakery turned out over 5,000 paczki per hour. The paczki season is short and ends today, so fans of the treat are lining up for their last chance to chow down.
