Room and board at University of Michigan residence halls will go up an average of 4.9 percent next academic year.
The university's Board of Regents approved the increase at a Thursday meeting.
The basic rate per student for a double room with a standard meal plan will be $8,591. That's an increase of $401 from the 2007-08 academic year.
Some rates for campus apartment rentals won't increase by as much on a percentage basis.
Tuition rates for the University of Michigan will be set later.

high raises in many prices due to the oil thing will cost schools of all types more, passing on costs to students,or parents.or gov programs to help students.we need to get educated,or can't get decent paying jobs.like many other things, pay or don't have deal.pay food prices or don't eat,pay gas prices or don't drive, pay and pay more.give so much to other countries.get along with them or we don't have.go into wars to protect our assets,or loose them.stop terriost after 911.welcome to the new usa.the one we had went somewhere.who do we blame doesn't matter.but we all pay the prices.what a mess.and so job loss, and lack of jobs causes less taxes.so who will pick up the money loss of many things.200$ or maybe more a barrel is what big oil wants, saudies in the lead.go figure.

will this get more money from the government programs to help kids go to college?just like the insurances people on state aid get.doctors keep ya comming back, not really solving some illness till the docs feel they have gotten enough off the state.will colleges next stop taking some kids, who can't pay higher prices.just like some doctors do.and it is sad to give some college students food cards,so they can use their untold about money for booze and drugs.will it come down to less going to college, due to higher prices of so many things.this usa is changing way to fast.the oil thing being the cause of way to many things,to fast that americans can not adjust.many involved in the oil things are getting out of hand.doctors, schools and who ever can bleed the states of social programs.not the people on them, but the ones charging for servivcs.over priced stores in small towns eat up poors food stamps.how much do gas stations make off gas over their costs?schools raise prices?on and on.sad.
