Barack Obama has apologized to a Michigan TV reporter for calling her "sweetie" and dodging her question about autoworkers.
WXYZ-TV's Peggy Agar shouted a question to the Democratic presidential candidate during Obama's appearance Wednesday at a Chrysler LLC plant in Sterling Heights.
Agar asks Obama what he's "going to do to help American autoworkers."
He replies, "Hold on one second, sweetie, we'll do a press avail, thanks" but didn't get back to Agar.
On the air later, the station played a voice message Obama left for Agar. Obama apologizes for not getting back to her. He also tells Agar he has a bad habit of calling people "sweetie."
Obama then says: "I mean no disrespect, so I am duly chastened on that front."

I comment Mr. Obama for apologizing to the reporter. Not only for neglecting to answer her question but for using an inappropriate endearment (sweetie). I, personally, do not care to called sweetie, dear, hon, etc by people I don't know, but everyone is human and he acknowledged that this is a bad habit of his. Why do we judge our leaders on such petty issues rather than looking into their voting records or where their campaign finances are coming from?

I have to say that I hate when I get gas and everyone says there you go hon or sweetie and to my husband...yes they call him sweetie to. I think you can be nice without all the sweetie stuff. And now the possible leader of our country is saying it. You can acknowledge someone without sweetie, how about maam or sir.

Erin sweetie, obviously he knows THEIR name so he wouldn't use sweetie...sweetie.

I can picture it now... To Queen Elizabeth II: "Nice tiara, Sweetie" To Margaret Thatcher: "Yeah, Sweetie, you were a great Prime Minister" To Nancy Pelosi: "Hey you're rockin' that Speaker of the House position, Sweetie"

Barack Obama just lost my support with this story!!!! Calling someone sweetie is one thing, but not answering the question about how he is going too help the American autoworkers is other. I am sick of all the politician's lip service, Michigan needs action now!!!!

If calling someone "sweetie" is the wrong thing to say to anyone, I would owe the whole world an apology. I call almost anyone "sweetie", it is not said to be any disrespect or endearment, but one of respect instead of trying to remember someone's name, or even if I don't know a name. It is simply a way to acknowledge one, so get over it Ms. Agar.
