It's been years in the making and Wednesday, Japanese based Aisin's proving ground in Fowlerville, became official.

Technically, testing and development will begin next week, but the grand opening for the facility was held Wednesday.

Aisin is one of the companies Governor Jennifer Granholm met with on her recent trip to Japan. Ten others have also signed on to invest in Michigan.

The project encompasses 878 acres of former farmland and the company will employ about 50 people, jobs the Governor says are non-outsourceable.

This is Aisin's third proving ground, it's first in North America. The other two are in Japan. Everything from brakes and body systems to transmissions and chassis will be tested at the facility.
