OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Some state Republican lawmakers want to temporarily eliminate Michigan's sales tax on gasoline for the summer driving season.
Republican Representative Jack Hoogendyk says suspending the sales tax isn't a "silver bullet." But it would provide some immediate relief from high fuel prices.
Hoogendyk was in Kalamazoo County to discuss the proposal along with fellow GOP Representatives Rick Shaffer and Neal Nitz.
The proposal reportedly would drop the 6-percent sales tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day. But it wouldn't touch the state's 19-cent-per-gallon gasoline tax that's used for road construction and maintenance.

sit down and figure what gas cost a gal in winter months, then what yor fuel to heat with cost.ouch!then keep track what you pay for food items month to month.see if they've went up. keep track of prices month to month,of everything.any new taxes added on bills also.then figure it up at the end of the year.then see how much your wages went up.or down.or if you still have a job.keep track of all the jobs comming to mich, where, and pay scales.see how many go on food stamps, how many layoffs, how many have no work in certain areas.ect.if you can do this you need to run for office.you'll be doing better than our gov.and maybe be fair to all.we are in a big mess usa wide.eat or drive?where did the usa go.did someone switch america with us.sure feels that way.our gov use to work for us,what happened.has the pay went up since george.the first president.who knows who is in it for the money?and not for the people.money takes care of money.no one else.

That's something you don't hear about much in Michigan. a tax cut. I like it, they need to drop the 19 cent a gallon tax also.

How absurd! We should not lower the tax revenue and keep that rainy day fund for sustaining the schools' budget line.

prices will still be to high.we have gotten down to not paying high heating costs for a few months.who knows how high they will go next winter?and we know gas will be up higher.the few pennies we could save at the pump, will not equal winters fuel bills, nor high food costs, nor will it bring the jobs needed to mich.people in northern climates pay so much in gas plus heating products.one or the other should get costs cut way back in winter months.the oil problems were caused by governments all over the world.it has brought power and profit to many invested.it is at the big boom.what happens when the boom crashes?how many will suffer in the mean time till govs get it together.new fuels will cause problems as well.the long term effects of growing, storms, ect can bring it to a hault as well.progress and greed.mans wisdom has failed again.long term effects are never added to progress.

In a recent class, my economics professor that increasing the taxes on the gas would improve tax spending and reduce the overall cost and demand for the fuel and reduce taxes in other areas.

To cut into the profits that the gas companies are making, they need to raise the taxes.

save 1.80 on 20 gals of gas?not the 19 cents as thats for roads?gee why aren't roads all fixed, plowed and so on?looks like away to make people spend more for gas, thinking there getting a bargin, making oil ones even better off money taking care of money.then we get winter back and who knows how cold, how much snow?for how long?and who knows how high gas will be to drive or heat our homes?people living in the north pay double for oil things.would not a cut in gas prices help more in the winter?who knows what food prices will be then?nothing is going down we can be sure of that.how is mich going to continue to pay for many things the way there's not enough decent paying jobs to get taxes needed to run this state?and will enough jobs come here soon?mich is being avoided by many.jobs,tourist,ect.but look at what mich gov is doing to the state.people even shop in other states.why the gov should ask,or don't they care?or won't they admitt how wrong the things are they are doing?what a mess!

19cents.so gas goes up to 4.75 a gal or higher.looks like that will hapeen by winter when home heating gas is needed.should not it be cut in the winter months not the summer?sounds like mich government.backwards again.at least in the summer we can't freeze to death due to high heating costs.road construction?well when car owners can no longer keep there cars on the roads due to gas prices, lack of high paying jobs ect, remember horses can go about any where, pot holes or not.ice or snow.amish go all yr around.america going backwards due to progress went to fast to far?how much will winter fuel bills be?gas prices then?food prices by winter?and how many more jobs will be in mich by winter?0 jobs but higher cost of everything.the what will we hear about the 2009 budget?double the taxes because no more policy last yr?or threats of no this or that if taxes aren't raised.while people are forced to shop other states, and no one wants to visit mich for vacations,no smoking,no this or that?????

Well supply and demand are the cause and effect only incentives like discounts on full plug and go electric transportation are really the solution.Currently the one I like retails for 36000 dollars, its just too much, should cost around 18000 dollars. Thank you
