The Lansing School District is brainstorming after preliminary count day numbers show a lower than projected tally. Everything from shuffling teachers around to re-evaluating class sizes to keeping teaching and non-teaching positions vacant has been suggested.

The district projected to be down 509 students after count day. The total topped out at 662, 153 more than expected. The lesser number means about $1,044,225 less in state funding for the LSD.

All districts have until November 1 to turn in final counts. The LSD's registrar doesn't expect its numbers to change much.
