DETROIT (AP) -- Some gambling industry experts think Detroit's three casinos could get burned by a ban on smoking.
The Michigan Senate voted Thursday to ban smoking in all bars, restaurants and workplaces. The state House could approve the measure as early as next week and send it to Governor Granholm, who has said she will sign it.
Industry-watchers say smokers might choose to avoid downtown Detroit's casinos if the ban is approved. The state's 18 American Indian-run casinos wouldn't be affected, but it isn't clear if residents of the metropolitan area would drive to the out-state gambling halls.

won't effect indian owned?but others.here the first descrimation deal.I smoke, vist casinoes because I can afford.take away smoking I can and will go elsewheres.another state.mich has continued to hurt or run bussiness out of here.mich gov has spent tax payers money, with no good results.and not got jobs in here to get people to work, and get our economy going.I don't go where I can't smoke,my job has areas for smokers.funny how other employees come in to talk to us smoke and all.there choice.I can't blame people for buying alot of things out of state where they get them cheaper.I do,and won't stop till mich gets there heads on strait.I'm not poor, but mich gov deserves what they get with there foolishness.I just feel sorry for many living in mich.this is stepping on a legal freedom of the people, and reasons like this is keeping jobs out of mich.surely don't see comments in favor of this.it is just as bad as telling people what church they should belong to,how much to drink ect.what freedom

bad for the bussiness.yes it is.but bad for mich as well.what is our government think they are doing?we can't tell a bussiness to only give 2 drinks of booze to a customer?so to stop drunk driving problems.we can't tell doctors to stop giving so many pain pills, that get people addicted.we can't get enough funds to fight the drug problems in mich.we can't make laws to get prostitutes off the streets for ever?we can't even control certain mayors actions in offices as they do awful things.we can't get all kinds of jobs to come to mich so people can work.we can't lower taxes on certain items to get people to buy all stuff in mich.we just keep bussiness and people from wanting to come to mich.why?stupid laws like this, taking away ones freedoms, and messing up mich even more.what we need is better gov in mich.I'd never vote for any in there agin.so many won't.look at mich and we know why it is in bad shape.and I don't smoke, but except thoes that do and there rights.not a one way street, sorry.

if the bussiness owners in mich could sue the state gov for any laws passed that hurt there bussinesses and take away there rights of freedoms to make choices concerning there bussiness,or hurts there profit,if they could sue, maybe our gov would keep ther nose where it belongs.there are not enough high paying jobs or enough jobs in mich as it is.so lets cause loss of money for thoes here?why step on toes that should not be steped on?our stupid cigg tax hurts as it is.loss of many taxes as people buy out of state.people will just avoid mich.how many come here to buy ciggs.how many won't come here to do alot of things?5th highest in states,in gas tax?another reason to not bring bussinesses here.what is jenn thinking and the ones serving with her?smoking is legal.so stop hurting mich more with trying to stop legal things, and stepping on bussiness people money.and make money for this state, not take it away.

does jenn being from canada and there socialist gov ways infulance her in the way she is trying to run mich?this deal and what she says she will sign is so wrong and many are going to find it hurting there bussinesses.and how much longer can mich economy continue with loss of this or that due to our gov ways.people already avoid comming to mich because of high taxes, fees of this or that.mich people are going else where's to vacation.who's comming to mich to buy anything?no one, just the oppsite.giving tax money and money away to other states.jobs surely aren't comming.why?the gov is doing something wrong still.lets make movies in mich?who pockets will that help?lets keep cutting funds needed?lets make the rich ones richer, and not worry how poor more become?why not limit how much booze can be bought in bars, might stop drunk driving ones and save lives.what about all the street drugs and pain pill pushing doctors?stop that too.what about the prostitutes?stop them.freedoms, jenns taking whos

is this more about freedoms.is not smoking legal.so leave alone.jenn said we must hire gays in gov.but yet the gov won't consider two of the same sex legal enough so they can get insurance on the what ever they are married to.jenn spent tax money on a new police heatquaters mich didn't need.the budget was not done in time, causing problems, then they found extra money?so now this.another leave alone thing before we cause more tax lost, job loss, and who kows what else.we already have forced smokers to buy cheaper out of state.pool money together, take the trip, stock up.some even spend money in other areas when they find cheaper other things.or spend the nite.money lost for mich.then jenn wanted to make it so food card people had to shop 2 times a mo.to be the first state to do so.will hurt people more than help.telling people how to shop, when, and said it would help stores.like walmart is poor?now who can smoke, where and when?who is comming to mich to shop or buy stuff because it is cheaper?

why don't mich look at how bussiness are being effected in other states banning smoking?look how poor some states are becomming due to higher cig taxes ect.look how better off some are buy keeping ciggs prices cheaper and many other things.I don't even smoke, have a decent paying job.but it is so upsetting when states cause loss of money, buy forcing people to go else wheres to buy this or that,or do stuff, thatleaves more tax burdens on me!smoking is legal so leave it alone and stop dictating to people what, where, when ect.this is not a socialist gov,or communist gov.stuff like this just takes given freedoms away.give the gov an inch and before we know it many freedoms will be gone for the none smokers as well.the air we breathe, the water we drink, are worse for us than the gov tells,or worse than cigg smoke.we have so many toxic landfills that can't be cleaned up due to lack of tax funds,so why loose bussiness, and let taxes and money go out of mich, over stupid stuff like this?

Posted by: mike Location: detroit on May 11, 2008 at 04:50 AM
how many smoke that go to bars, eating places and casinos?more do than don't.it just seems part of the places one goes to relax.the work place should also be owners choice because they know how many smoke and have seperate areas for both as a rule.how would jenn know, does she go to all above places?like usual she wantss to take freedoms and rights away from people.what this law will cause is loss of more for mich.keep out of state vacationers away if they smoke, and more do than she knows.she already is loosing alot of tax money for mich with her high cigg tax.we can't get enough jobs here over the way mich is ran.bussiness tax that replaced the single tax is not doing a thing for mich.just not what jobs want to do.her way or no way is ruining mich.we can see why when stupid stuff continues to be done.as our state just gets worse over ideas to only please certain ones.it should either be this way for all states or none.smoking is legal.so be it.just taking away of more freedoms.more tax

why don't they just look at what is happening to Illinois casinos?

Posted by: robert Location: mich on May 10, 2008 at 10:35 AM
we see how mich is being destroyed by presant government, don't we.more loss of things will result from these actions if jenn sign bills.more taxes will be lost and more put onto the people who can pay.smokers or not.thoes who can afford to gamble will go else wheres of course.thoes forced to go to work will leave grounds of bussinesses to smoke.many are staying out of resraunts now.it is a free country, smoking is legal.so no one state should say we can or can't smoke where.as long as bussiness allow.we already give tax money away to other states, because of our high cigg taxes, why not just buy them else where's plus while shopping pick up many other things.even gas can be found to be a few pennies cheaper.why didn't other states all due the high cigg tax and band smoking?because ther not stupid.they know how much money ciggs bring in taxes and so on.many who smoke will not come to mich to vacation when not being able to smoke in bars and restraunts and casinoes.lets keep people away.

not a smart move by mich gov.more of a dictator ship rule!smoking is leagal in america.it produces much tax wise.it is bad enough that the cigg tax is so high in mich.and forces people to buy them else wheres.and while shopping out of state, many other items are bought as many find alot of prices cheaper.sure it will take bussiness away, and some may just figure move our casinoes out of state.less tax money and a poorer economy for mich.many going to casinoes are not the poor ones.many smoke and will not like these ruleings.some company owners will find this also stupid as many workers smoke, and without there ciggs will do less of a job.why bring jobs into mich when we have a gov that acts comminuist?by jenn signing this it will cause more problems for mich people.worry about all the drugs on the streets, and start telling doctors to get over a pain pill for everything.smoking is legal, till it is not, leave well enough alone.new casino going up in stuban co,Ind.angola.smoking allowed in IND

just solve the problem in many areas and build smoking-non smoking everything.see who has the most bussiness.smokers pay the prices and how many taxes are collected off ciggs.stop everyone from smoking?there goes billions in taxes, plus money for canidates running for offices.plus would put how many out of a job if cigg facoties got put out of bussiness.all the non smokers would be picking up many new taxes ect smokers provide now.we need more loss if jobs in america don't we?sure jenn will sign it.just hurts mich economy more.makes more people find ways to leave mich.putting more tax burdens on the rich.casiones and many place providing jobs can just leave mich, and probably will.it is legal to smoke,so leave it up to owners to make the choice,if not they have more to blame on the gov,as we all do in mich.why does jenn keep cutting mich throats.many company owners just hate a gov that runs everything they want to do.more jobs will refuse to come to mich over this stupid act.
