Visit Lansing's Potter Park Zoo soon and you'll notice a big change. Ground was broken for two new exhibits Wednesday, the North American Otter and the Arctic Fox.
The more than $1 million project has been in the works for at least four years. It follows more than a few obstacles including flooding, Mayor Benavides suggesting it be managed by the Potter Park Zoological society to save the city dollars and a group of citizens publicly campaigning against a parks millage renewal last August. The millage ultimately passed.
Construction on the two new exhibits could begin as early as this month and you could be watching otters swim underwater as soon as this spring. The project is being paid for by past millage money set aside and matching funds from a local memorial foundation.
