Republican leaders and Governor Jennifer Granholm took a big step toward balancing Michigan's $40 billion dollar budget.

The agreement includes many cuts to state services.

One bright spot, however, is per pupil funding for public schools. The state is expected to increase that amount by about three percent.

Legislators will now debate line-items on the budget and hope to begin passing budget bills by as early as Tuesday the 13th.
